Spiritual abuse & cults - why some fall prey The vast majority of people who join cults were approached at a very low period of their lives. They may have been suffering from deep depression, grief, crisis, profound uncertainty, or questioning their purpose in life. |

I Wished My Father Knew When I think about Father’s Day, I can’t help but to think of the only father I ever knew. He was a man so loved by the women and his family. He was highly respected by everyone. He had a natural charm that would make you want to be around him especially when he would speak. His voice would make you want to listen to every word he spoke. With that voice, he had intelligence and wisdom. But when you looked in his eyes, they always seem to be fighting back tears. |

The Truth Will Set You Free: Hurricane Katrina As the winds gusted through Louisiana, our country viewed the tragedy from their television screens. Everybody had his or her own understanding of this historical event. Listening to people who were not near the scene but had answers to why it had to happen, I couldn't help but notice some of the Christian perspectives the most. |

The Real Story Behind Cutting I have written this article in response to an editor who seems to think that my last article about self-abuse was, in her words, "dishwater." It is a journal entry I wrote about 2 years into my own struggle with self-abuse. I fought for almost 3 years with this disease, and I am happy to say that, though I still bear scars as reminders of this time, I have not cut myself in a full year. Here is a closer look into the mind of a self-abuser. |

Solvent Abuse Deadlier than Ecstasy Imagine a drug that can, potentially, be as dangerous as heroin and cocaine. Imagine that drug being legal. Now imagine that 10% of 14 to 18 year olds are, or have, misused this drug and that one-person dies every week in the United Kingdom alone due to the effects of abusing this drug. These are not street drugs, the average home has 30 kitchen and bathroom products that can be abused, and it is the very fact that all of these substances are legal and have legitimate uses that allows abuser to maintain that they are doing little wrong. Glue sniffing and solvent abuse therefore refers to the deliberate inhalation of volatile solvents. |

McDonald's and Animal Welfare: An Uphill Battle? In 1997, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) launched an anti-McDonald's campaign, complaining about their animal welfare practices. In response, McDonald's set down guidelines for their suppliers regarding the living conditions for the animals they produced. Years later, McDonald's is still working to improve the treatment of the animals that eventually become our Big Macs. What is the company doing and what has been PETA's response? |
