Some could say that pizza is almost as old as human kind. They could say that, but they would be wrong, but only with a few thousands, or millions, of years. The word pizza was first documented in 997 AD in Italy. Foods similar to pizza, however, have been made since the neolithic age that started 10,200 BC.

Today, if we only count the number pizzas Americans buy, more than 3 billion pizzas are sold every year. World-wide sales are over 5 billion pizzas a year. Around 350 slices of pizza are eaten in America each and every second.

Did you know that
  • there are more than 61 000 pizzerias in the United States?
  • and that on average every person in the States eats 46 slices of pizza per year?
  • the world's largest pizza covered 10,000 square feet, measuring 140 feet across. Weighing 44,457 pounds it gave enough to eat for 30 000 people, all of whom got more than 3 slices.
  • that the best pizza sales days is Super Bowl Sunday?

The biggest pizza chain in the world? Pizza Hut. The chain that opened its first restaurant in 1958, in the United States alone it has now more than 6000 restaurants and around the same amount of store locations in 94 countries around the world. During the top sales days like the Super Bowl Sunday, and Thanksgiving, they sell more than 1 million pizzas a day, same with New Year's Eve, Halloween and Valentine's Day.

With big sales numbers come the need and will to change things, to make the menu bigger and better like they did last year with a restaurant revamp that doubled menu options. And now they have put together two classic pieces of food - pizza, and breadsticks! To celebrate it, they have come out with a new video introducing great moments in human innovation.
