"Hildago"is the story of a man, his horse and the American spirit. The
movie is set in the middle east and is about a 3000 mile race for money
and the rights of a bloodline to fabled Arabic horses, but Hildago is
really about an American and how he finds his American Indian heritage.

It's a feelgood movie that tells of the misunderstandings
between cultures and their differing views of the world. Viggio
Mortensen plays Frank T Hopkins, a cowboy competing with his mixed
blood horse against tough competition. Whilst Omar Sharif plays the
shiek who is fond of American cowboy stories. T he acting in this movie
is okay. If you want to enjoy a good story and have 2 hours to be
entertained, go see this movie.

The scenes filmed in the desert were amazing, you actually felt like
you were caught up in a sandstorm and in one scene, Frank is forced to
eat locusts to survive, Besides the elements, the main adversary in
this film is an English born women who tries to seduce Frank and
attempts to steal the Shieks stallion. Jazira, the Shieks daughter,
played by Zuleikha Robinson, is a girl trying to be a man in Arabic
society and helps Frank with the race. In the end Frank calls on his
Indian ancestors to get him over the final hurtle to finish the race.
The last scene shows the Army getting ready to slaughter thousands of
mixed breed horses, when Frank shows up with a bill of sale to free the
horses.

This movie is about the free spirit of the American
Indian and the changes brought about at the end of the 19th century. It
was a typical movie for underdog lovers and did not waste my $8.00 to
see this film. By the way, Viggio Mortensen bought the horse that
played "Hidalgo".
