Try this one for stupidity.

The real reason for the proposed Chinalco deal in fact had nothing to do with the welfare of Rio Tinto but to do with keeping iron ore prices down.
Chinese Government owned company, Chinalco, tries to buy into Anglo-Australian iron ore miner, Rio Tinto, and fails in its bid because Rio had other ideas in terms of who controlled the company as well as the fact that the Australian Government and the general population did not like the deal either.

The real reason for the proposed Chinalco deal in fact had nothing to do with the welfare of Rio Tinto but to do with keeping iron ore prices down.

Then, a tirade of abuse from the various Chinese officials because Chinalco did not get its way following which three Rio Tinto people based in China were arrested and accused of spying with the main Rio representative Stern Hu, and Australian citizen, being accused of bribery, corruption, espionage and anything else short of murder.

Since then, Chinese officials have accused Rio Tinto of spying activities over a 6-year period alleging that those activities cost China $123 billion, this despite the fact that Rio-Tinto never even exported iron ore worth $123 billion during the six years as alleged.

At least we now know that Chinese official can count 1-2 and 3.

The overall facts of the Chinese stupidity are these.

As has now become known, people held in relation to this case have been 'abused' and 'intimidated' by Chinese officials, whatever that means...

China failed in its bid to get hold of Rio Tinto.

It got shitty and decided to arrest a few Rio representatives in order to get its way, accusing Rio of spying in the process. As to justify its action, Chinese officials accused Rio Tinto of costing China the billions of dollars.

Really, they have got to kidding.

Any reasonable person would say to the Chinese Government is "Prove your case and where is the evidence" and "Your arguments don't stack up".

What needs to happen now is the following.

Chinese officials need to charge Stern Hu, he has already been held in custody for a month, and put him before a court and by that I mean a real court that it totally independent and that independent observers are able to monitor.

As has now become known, people held in relation to this case have been 'abused' and 'intimidated' by Chinese officials, whatever that means, so the reliability of any witnesses is now highly questionable and suspect.

...there is no case against Mr Hu and others and that his arrest was simply a Chinese dummy-spit' in order to get its way in relation to Rio Tinto.

The Chinese must prove its case beyond reasonable doubt or the case against Mr Hu will simply be highlighted for what it really is, a case of sour grapes and a farce.

I am of the view that it is highly likely that there actually there is no case against Mr Hu and others and that his arrest was simply a Chinese dummy-spit' in order to get its way in relation to Rio Tinto.

It only goes to show. Chinese justice is like Chinese shirts.

Very cheap and very nasty.

My name is Henk Luf.
And that's the way it is.
