A husband must have control over his wife,

Without which he does not feel secure,

This is the case-

For most men.

I must earn more than you,

Otherwise I am not a man,

You understand, dear?

I love you.

But my mother tells me I must have a bit of my own savings,

A woman must protect herself,

In case of emergency,

Is that not so?

Silly girl!

You stay at home and be a good mother and wife,

About money- 

Leave that to me.

But I must look out for myself,
