Martha Stewart's home confinement in her New York estate has been extended until the end of the month. She has been confined to her Katonah mansion since March after spending five months in Alderson Prison in West Virginia, following her conviction for lying about a suspicious stock sale.

In April, Stewart applied to Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum to reduce her house arrest, complaining her lack of freedom was affecting her business interests, but her pleas were rejected. Despite initial plans for Stewart to be released on August 10, her attorney Walter Dellinger confirms she will remain at home longer than expected, saying she "has agreed to an extension of the terms of her home confinement until August 31".

Stewart's confinement conditions state she must wear an electronic tagging anklet at all times and can only spent 48 hours away from her estate a week, for shopping, medical appointments, church and employment. The reason for Stewart's home confinement extension has not been revealed
