New York, Dec 24 : A bio diesel speedboat powered in part by liposuctioned human fat will go around the world in a bid to set a new speed record.
Pete Bethune will captain the 3 million dollars bio fuel-powered boat 'Earthrace'.
The 78-foot boat will run on natural bio fuels and has zero carbon footprint, and the source for producing 2 gallons of human fat were Bethune' wife and other volunteers, who underwent liposuction. The fat juice will run the craft for 9 miles.
"The record is just a small part of the package," the New York Daily News quoted Bethune, as saying.
"We need to make people aware that bio fuels need to be part of our transport energy mix and people should support them should they become available," he added.
With the craft, Bethune wants to shatter the current circumnavigation record of 75 days set by a British boat in 1998.
The odd-looking boat is designed in such a way that it cuts through massive swells without slowing.
"If it were up to market forces, bio fuels wouldn't happen at all. Politicians ... must make sure the production of bio fuels is sustainable," Bethune said.
The catamaran will try to make the 32,000-mile trip in just 65 days, starting in Valencia, Spain, on March 1. (ANI)
