Travelwise issues the following advice in relation to cancelled flights to, from and between European destinations.

The diversions, cancellations and delays are due to the volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland erupting.

For travellers coming to and from Asia/Pacific cities, train services between Rome and other European cities may provide a solution.

Rome has rail-link with the rest of Europe and travel times from that city are good.

Diverted flights from long-distance departure point should not present a problem in Europe as frequent rail connections are available.

Land transport, rail and bus, alternatives between European cities are also available.
