It’s no
secret that fast food is tremendously popular and a way of life in
America. And sometimes fast food is linked to uncomfortable
stomach-ular feelings that make us vow NEVER TO EAT THAT FOOD AGAIN.
This vow however is broken once we feel better or don’t have time to
cook at home.
But one fast food restaurant, which
specializes in onion enriched flavored hamburgers, is known throughout
the “land of the free” for its bowel-moving
prowess. White Castle.
The restaurant is appropriately named because once your dining
experience is complete, get ready to sit on the throne.
With
all the negative word of mouth this restaurant receives, I’m surprised
to find that the place is always packed. During lunchtime, the drive
thru line resembles the scene at the end of “Field of Dreams”, except
for the fact lunchtime takes place during the day. Perhaps people feel
like it’s an accomplishment to have survived such a gut-wrenching fast
food experience. Those of us who cannot scale Mt. Everest may somehow
feel this achievement is comparable.
I guess it all comes down
to convenience and the sacrifice of quality for quickness. But don’t
worry, I’m sure White Castle will continue to thrive for years to come.
The fast-paced world we live in often leaves no time for a
well-balanced meal.
In the meantime, perhaps management can do something about it. Maybe all customers should be given napkins AND toilet paper.
