Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in Sydney-based director Alex Proyas' thriller "Knowing."

The film, to be fully financed and distributed by Summit Entertainment, will begin production on March 17 in Melbourne.

The actor will play a teacher who studies the contents of a time capsule discovered at his son's elementary school, reports Variety.

Shocking predictions in the time capsule that have already come true lead him to believe the world is going to end at the close of the week and that he and his son are somehow involved in the devastation.

Escape Artists partners Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce, while Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone will co-produce the film.

Escape Artists created the project with novelist Ryne Pearson, who pitched it and wrote the first draft. (ANI)
