Prince Charles and Camilla were the guests of honour at a garden party at Northern Ireland's Hillsborough Castle.
Britain's Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were the guests of honour at a garden party at Northern Ireland's Hillsborough Castle.

More than 2000 guests were at the event, which was hosted by Secretary of State Shaun Woodward.

The royal couple planted a pine tree to mark their visit before Charles left for a heritage and regeneration conference, while Camilla visited the Barnardos centre in Belfast.

Camilla is the charity's president and enjoyed a tour of the centre and met staff and families before dedicating a garden seat.

Charles and Camilla were later presented with a hamper of local foods by the East Ireland Slow Food Convivium.

Meanwhile, Highland Council have granted Charles the freedom of Caithness.

A special award ceremony for the prince will take place later this year.

Council convenor Sandy Park said he was granted the honour for maintaining a connection with the late Queen Mother's former residence at the Castle of Mey and his continued involvement in promoting the area at a national level through his North Highland Initiative.
