35 people have been killed when a bus collided with a passenger train while trying to dash across a railraod crossing, to beat the oncoming train. According to witnesses, passengers that were still alive on the bus were jumping out of the windows, some of them on fire.
The bus was dragged 100 yards by the train, when it burst into flames and ended up like a heap of metal.
The accident happened 50 miles nortaheast of Colombo at Polgahawela. An investigation is underway.
