Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, has alarmed the Bush Administration by series of weapon purchases. United States officials have described it as "one-man arm's race".

Hugo Chavez has evidence about alleged plan from US to assasinate him.

Venezuela has affirmed that it is buying AK-47 rifles from Russia in an amount that is enough to arm 100 000 men. The officials of Pentagon believe that the actual amount could be 3 times higher. Just for comparison - Venezuela's national guard consists of only 62 000 men.

US intelligence reports that Venezuela is also buying 50 Russian attack helicopters and that Chavez is also discussing the purchase of 30 MIG-29 fighter jets. They have also reason to believe that Chavez is planning to open a factory in order to produce ammunition for AK-47's.

Venezuelan ambassador to the United States, Bernardo Alvarez says that Venezuela is only buying arms to replace old equipment. Regardless of this claim, US officials are afraid that independent of Chavez's intentions these weapons could eventually get to the hand of narco-terrorists and other non-supported organizations.
