UK - Last year cannabis was reclassified and downgraded from class B to class C meaning that the police was ordered not to arrest adults who were found smoking it.
However, recent studies have shown that cannabis is linkted to mental health problems. Thus the UK goverment is thinking of reclassifying the drug again.
What do you think about smoking cannabis? Should it be allowed or should it be banned totally? Before answering, we also suggest you to read another article - I Smoke Pot. Whats The Big Deal?
Saving the Tigers from extinction It was a hurriedly organized citizen’s meeting at Guwahati Press Club, where serious concerns were expressed at the increasing trend of poaching and killing of wildlife in various parts of Assam.
The EIP factor - what you should learn from it When we grow older, or get older for the sake of the argument, we tend to start seeing the world only from one side. We tend to believe, no, not believe but know, how things are done. If you are smart, you understand that it shouldn't be that way, you understand this is wrong.

Obviously.... think of the wasted tax revenue if you're a politician.
If cannabis has mental health implications how come despite an increasing trend for use has not triggered a corresponding increasing cases?
Prohibition and prosecution for a victimless crime is senseless. Is a criminal record really a fitting punishment? Destroying peoples lives and careers because of a choice they made that affects nobody except (and the health implications are debatable ) the user themselves.

Yes, there's never been a real reason for it to be prohibited. If it's banned because it's dangerous why are tobacco and alcohol legal? They kill almost 100,000 people a year, cannabis hasn't killed anyone in over 6000 years! The only people benefitting seem to be the oil, timber, and cotton industries, while people who've never broken a law in their lives are imprisoned for growing a plant. Very strange.
I think people should be allowed to make up their own minds if they want a pint of the black stuff, a cig, or a joint. What's it got to do with the government anyway?

Yes it should be allowed. And Im one of the those who people would assume would say the opposite. I dont use cannabis and moreover my son's use of cannabis is linked to his very severe mental health problems. So I believe passionately that the message about risks for some people shold be got across. But NOT by banning people from doing it and punishing them if they do. Its a health message, not a legal one. Adults have the right to make their own decisions about use, with the knowledge that for some there are risks. Totall banning does not infom about safe use - it just gets peoples backs up. What should NOT be allowed is selling it to children and with strict controls in a leglised framework this need not happen.

Whether we want to admit it or not, even now, in year 2012, there are still big gender biases in some fields of life. While it's generally understandable that men should do more heavy lifting than women and knitting fits a bit better for the women (even though I am aware even here there are many people who want to disagree), art is one of those things where our gender really should not play any significant role at all. And within the past decade things have started to change even on this front and even on the more conservative arenas such as Bukowskis - the top Nordic auction house.
