Biffle wins race, Busch win Nextel Cup Going into the final race of the 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series at the Homestead/Miami Speedway for the Ford 400, Kurt Busch was leading Jimmy Johnson by a slim 18 points and Jeff Gordon by 21 points. NASCAR changed from the old points system by giving the top ten drivers and those within 400 points of the leader a second chance. Basically tightening up the points by giving the top ten a five point difference from each position. The leader is given 5,050 points, second 5,045, third 5,040 and so on down the line to each qualifying driver. for the last 10 races of the season. The hops being a tighter finish to the season championship over past years where one driver could have a 900 point lead and no one having much of chance to catch them. The new format definately made an interesting final race.
