The US-led troops and Afghan forces have reportedly cleared out the Taliban militants from the outskirts of Kandahar city, killing or wounding hundreds of them, mostly Pakistanis, Kandahar Provincial Governor Assadullah Khalid said.

Last weekend around 400 dreaded Taliban insurgents had escaped from a jail in Kandahar after a handful of suicide bombers stormed the jail killing most of the security guards posted at the jail. Thereafter, they reportedly intruded into the villages situated on the outerskirts of the Kandahar province, and many went up to their homes in Pakistan tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
