Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will celebrate their third wedding anniversary together this week, despite growing concern among the couple's friends about the shaky state of their relationship.

The pair will be going away together for a fortnight in Scotland, broken only by a trip to Lincolnshire where Charles will present Prince William with his pilot's wings.

They will celebrate their anniversary on April 9, at Birkhall, the house on the Balmoral estate that Charles inherited from the Queen Mother.

However, behind the romantic appearance, friends believe that the couple's relationship is on the rocks.

It is being claimed that constant arguments are causing the couple to spend an increasing amount of time apart.

Charles and Camilla are said to argue in front of aides and Camilla sometimes prefers to spend time alone at her country hideaway, sources say.

Clarence House denies there is any rift, and the friends stress that the problems are the sort of thing experienced by all married couples and are far from insurmountable.

Yet aides have expressed concern, with one well-placed source claiming: "The rows have escalated in the past three months. The staff are getting tired of it because you can't help but hear the shouting. As you can imagine, it's hugely embarrassing."

Worry regarding the royal relationship is believed to have stemmed from Camilla's growing habit of retreating alone to Ray Mill, her old family home at Lacock, Wiltshire, which she bought after her divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles.

One aide claimed Camilla felt more able to relax there than at Highgrove where her behaviour was under closer inspection. (ANI)
