Senior PPP leader and Pakistan Information Minister, Sherry Rehman has said that her party never recognised President Pervez Musharraf as a legal and constitutional president, but he was "a reality and equally a compulsion".

She blamed the erstwhile Musharraf regime for the present economic crisis. The former government had gifted the prevailing crisis to the coalition government and the party needs time to tackle it, she added.

Expressing intentions of removing Musharraf from the top post, she said, "We will transfer power from the Presidency to Parliament while restoring the Constitution of 1973."

The PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were aware of people's aspirations, she said, adding that the PPP's manifesto, and the ideas of the late Benazir Bhutto, reflected the wishes of the people of Pakistan.

Speculations have been rife over the past few days that the PPP is seriously planning to strip Musharraf of his powers, and sideline him to the extent that he has no option but step down on his own. But, Musharraf has maintained that he doesn't have any wish of resigning and that asserted he will continue to be in the post till his term lasts. (ANI)
