The 'No Country For Old Men' star is being lined up by the film's director to take the role of the "crazy" character from the hit 80s US TV show.

Director John Singleton said: "The script has been finished but I don't know who is in the cast yet. But I do know that the only person I want right now is, that I really, really want is Woody Harrelson to play Murdock - the guy who is crazy but he's kind of real smart, a jack of all trades."

Singleton insists he plans to take the material "seriously".

He said: "It's not going to be like some other remakes of TV classics. It's not a comic movie like 'Starsky and Hutch'. It's in the tradition of the 80s action pictures like 'Die Hard' and 'Lethal Weapon'."

The 'Boyz n the Hood' director also revealed the show's iconic character Mr. T will still sport his famous Mohawk hairstyle.

He added to movie website Collider.com: "Mr. T, whose real name is B.A. Baracus, will have his Mohawk. There is a moment in the movie where he actually gets it done because he's going crazy."

The hit TV series, which followed a group of ex-US Army Special Forces soldiers on the run after being accused of a crime they did not commit, was hugely popular and ran for five series between 1983 and 1986.

Murdock was considered so crazy by his fellow "soldiers of fortune" B. A. Baracus, Face and Hannibal they dubbed him 'Howling Mad', and were constantly required to break him out of a mental asylum before embarking on their adventures.

Singleton hopes to begin filming on the movie "in the next few months".
