The 1976 boxing classic, starring Sylvester Stallone as heavyweight fighter Rocky Balboa, came out on top in a survey of movie fans conducted by website LOVEFiLM.com.

'Rocky' is a rags-to-riches tale about a club fighter who gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship.

The movie - which won an Oscar for Best Film - beat hit 1994 comedy 'Cool Runnings' into second place.

'Cool Runnings', starring the late John Candy, told the true story of the Jamaican bobsleigh team who defied convention by competing in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Canada.

Making up the top three was Clint Eastwood's Oscar-winning movie 'Million Dollar Baby', in which Hilary Swank played a female boxer battling to become a professional.

Fourth place in the poll saw a dead heat between 1996 American football movie 'Jerry Maguire' and Martin Scorsese's 1980 classic boxing tale 'Raging Bull'.

Making up the top 10 were 1989 baseball film 'Field of Dreams', 1992 basketball comedy 'White Men Can't Jump', British epic 'Chariots of Fire' and soccer drama 'Escape to Victory', both from 1981, and 1980 slapstick golf film 'Caddyshack'.
