Denmark's Prince Joachim cried as he married French-born Marie Cavallier on Saturday (24.05.08).

In a ceremony screened live on Danish television, the bride - accompanied by her father Alain - walked down the aisle wearing a 19th century lace gown with a three metre train and wore a tiara borrowed from her new mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe.

Conducting the ceremony, Bishop Erik Svendsen mentioned the fact Joachim had been married before in his sermon.

He said: "You have been in love with others before you met.

"You naturally have deliberated carefully before deciding to say 'yes' to each other in the full light of publicity."

The couple left the church to a guard-of-honour, laughing as they walked under an archway of swords.

Guests then moved to the reception at the prince's home, Schakenborg Castle, where an eight-tiered octagonal wedding cake decorated with tiny marzipan crowns took pride of place.

The prince was previously married to Hong Kong-born Countess Alexandra Manley, the mother of his two sons.
