The monarch donned a brown and grey flowing scarf as a mark of respect to locals when she made her way into the Green Mosque in the city of Bursa accompanied by Turkey's First Lady Hayrunnisa Gul.

The 82-year-old royal also swapped her shoes for slipper-socks as she entered the religious building.

The Green Mosque was the latest stop for the queen on the trip, which is designed to strengthen Britain's ties with the republic.

She was cheered by 1,000 local residents as she visited an ancient textile market where she designed her own silk handkerchief.

The queen is being accompanied by her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on the state visit.

The royal couple were also treated to a fashion show in the market's open air courtyard later in the day.
