Britain's Prince Philip has allowed TV cameras to follow him around for the past 12 months for a new revealing documentary.

The two-part series, tentatively titled 'HRH The Duke of Edinburgh', will broadcast on British station ITV1 later this year.

The programme will offer "a unique and personal insight into the life and work of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh".

A statement added: "Cameras have followed the duke over the last year, producing a fascinating chronicle of the solo portfolio that HRH has carved out for himself.

"The series will have never-before-seen footage of the Duke's travels around the world from his own private film archive, which HRH shot himself."

The programme will also feature footage of Philip giving news broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald a personal tour of royal residence Sandringham Estate, the Norfolk retreat he shares with his wife Queen Elizabeth.

Earlier this year, the BBC broadcast the fly-on-the-wall documentary 'Monarchy'.

The programme led to BBC One controller Peter Fincham quitting after a preview tape was misleadingly edited to suggest the queen had stormed out of a portrait sitting.
