Barbadian singer Rihanna says that her label did not want her to cut her hair.

Her decision to cut her hair and get an edgy bob caused quite a stir than was at first thought.

"The label [Def Jam] didn't want me to do this look," usmagazine.com reported the 19-year-old singer as saying in the January issue of Allure.

"But cutting my hair, it made me stand out as an artist. I don't care who likes it - this is me," she added.

Rihanna is happy and glad that she got the haircut, saying that it has inspired many copycats.

"My friends still live in Barbados. They let me know that everyone asks for the "Rihanna haircut,'" she said.

However Rihanna was not so popular while she was growing up, and was teased for having paler skin than her peers.

"I was cultured in a very 'black' way. But when I got to school I'm being called 'white'... they would look at me, and they would curse me out. I didn't understand." (ANI)
