Time and again films have been made featuring metropolis Mumbai as its main protagonist. With every new flick, a completely unknown side of the city is brought forth. And the same applies to 'Mumbai Cutting, A City Unfolds' - the film which is a buffet of 11 films serving different flavours of the metropolis.

The White Cloud production brings to life Mumbai but with a difference. It explores the psyche of why the 'glamour obsessed' city has such a stronghold on the people who come there and still survive the adversity to continue being there.

In order to launch White clouds, Niyati the producer, had to woo ace directors and technical teams to join her and then craft a canvas where different facet of Mumbai was painted. And so Mumbai Cutting was born.

The hit list includes Sudhir Mishra, Kundan Shah, Anurag Kashyap, Revathy, Rahul Dholakia, Ruchi Narin, Manish Jha, Rituparno ghosh, Jahnu Barua, Shahshank Ghosh, and newcomer Ayush Raina.

"Handling such colossal talents would have been a tight ropewalk but I was pleasantly surprised at their elite professionalism" Niyati, the CEO of White cloud production said, as describing working with the ten directors she had roped in.

Every director had his or her own vision, when it came to the creation of the short film.

According to veteran Mumbaite Kundan Shah's version, the city is a frightening place that you dread to leave or live! And he has been very successful in exhibiting his perception of how it is to travel in Mumbai's local trains.

Another great director from the bunch is - Sudhir Mishra who worked on the 'Ball' with Soha Ali Khan as the protagonist zooming onto a happening under the bridge shot exclusively under the JJ flyover the heart of Mumbai.

He believes that "Mumbai is the contradiction that gives and takes with the same fervor but at the same time lets you to be yourself".

Anurag Kashyap's outlook about Mumbai is depicted through - Pramodbhai 23 - a story of the juvenile children that the society refuses to acknowledge.

Actress turned director Revathy deals with the disturbing approach to human trafficking in 'Parcel' with Sonali Kulkarni and Vinay Pathak.

She feels Mumbai is the most alive city she has seen.

Jahnu Barua focuses on the survival aspect of the middle class people and the positive vibes the city shares with you through strangers in 'Anjaane Dost'.

Ruchi Narin fascination for the auto rickshaws that ply across the city resulted in 'Jo Palta Woh Rickshaw Nahin', a quirky little snapshot on the effect of Mumbai on the people and how it works on their free will and qualms.

The successful middleclass in the concrete jungle called Mumbai and their response to dilemmas when they are in a fix is what filmmaker Shahshank ghosh contributes to Mumbai cutting.

Rahul Dholakia's 'Bombay Mumbai' gives a 7am -7pm look with whacky dialogue about four boys from diverse lifestyle and their approach to the varied and vivacious Mumbai.

Debutant Director Ayush Raina shot his Bombay high in a grimy bar where all the character seems to be perpetually high on some emotion. The cast mostly theatre and television personalities enact a muddled lifestyle of the present day Mumbaites.

Rituparno ghosh has come out with 'Urge'.

'And it rained...' is Manish Jha's work for 'Mumbai Cutting'. (ANI)
