Melbourne, May 8 : A portrait of late actor Heath Ledger has won the people's choice award at the Archibald Prize exhibition.

A portrait of late actor Heath Ledger has won the people's choice award at the Archibald Prize exhibition.

The portrait by Vincent Fantauzzo, painted few weeks before the 'Brokeback Mountain' star's death has three images of the actor, reports News.com.au.

More than 32,000 people voted in the competition, where the picture was announced winner at the Art Gallery of NSW.

The popularity of the late Oscar-nominated star also helped the gallery record its biggest attendance since 1921.

A spokeswoman said the Ledger family and Fantauzzo had decided to donate the painting to the gallery.

Melbourne-based Fantauzzo has received 3500 dollars worth of prizes. (ANI)
