Music launch of 'The Awakening', a film on the journey of a young girl born and brought up in New York whose thesis on Indus Valley Civilization brings her to India, was held here today.

Touted as "the first international Singlish movie" the film has the dialogues in English and songs in Sindhi.

Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh released the music of the film and gave away the music CD's to the cast and crew of the film.

Dharambir Kumar's film stars' Smita, Farida Dadi, Pankaj Berry, Gargi Patel and Ram Jethmalani besides many others. Vinod Raman Nair is the writer of the film.

With this film Ram Jethmalani, country's high-profile lawyer and former Union Law Minister makes a debut on the silver screen. He appears in a 10-minute role as a chief guest and gives away an award to the protagonist.

Koshi Lalvani has produced the film, besides giving the music of the film too.

A successful businessman from Dubai, Koshi Lalvani has stakes in construction, garments and now in cinema.

The leading lady of the film Smita is happy on being the part of the film and wants that something should be done to save the Sindhi culture from extinction.

"Its like a wake up call, the film is trying to make you aware that it's not too late to save the Sindhi culture. Perhaps it is the oldest civilization.," said Smita.

Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh was hopeful of film doing well at the box office provided the subject of the film was interesting.

"Had the film been in Sindhi then it would have had limited audience, now since the film is in English and its also dubbed in other languages so it will reach every corner of the world. If the subject is good and there are some emotions then it might score," said Jagjit Singh.

The film receives Sindhi flavour through the use of Sindhi music which plays a crucial role. There are six songs in the movie and the music is situational and varies from the romantic to the inspirational.

A special screening of this film was organised for L.K. Advani, leader of the opposition, who originally hails from Sindh province in Pakistan. He was full of praise for the team's efforts.

The film is slated to release on April 18. (ANI)
