The 'You, Me and Dupree' actress - who has a four-year-old son Ryder with ex-husband Chris Robinson - realised how exhausting raising a child can be while shooting her latest movie 'Fool's Gold' in Australia.

She said: "That was really hard as it was the first time I'd ever been away from Ryder. But it ended up being one of those things where I realised that you really do need time away from your children to remember you're a person, too! You know how it is - you try to sleep in, but even while you're sleep, you've always got one eye open and one ear open, too. So I end up exhausted. When it's only me, I can just go to work and come home."

Despite enjoying a brief break from Ryder, Kate insists her son will always be her number one priority.

She said: "When Chris and I realised we were unhappy in our marriage, we said, 'Are we going to let our egos get in the way here? Or are we going to do the right thing for our child?' I would literally go to the end of the Earth for Ryder, and so would Chris. As far as we're concerned, he's the priority."
