The recent going-on in Singapore is being short-changed when receiving change. Often, the culprit returns a lesser amount in terms of coins. When the mistake is discovered by the recipient, the culprit will return the remaining amount. However, many not alert may find their money siphoned off on many occasions. The venue where this short-changing takes place occurs most frequently at coffee shops and hawker centres.
This phenomenon may be attributed to rising living costs with the hike in Goods and Services Tax, food and oil prices.
