Board a bus, catch a train, and you may be surprised to see some changes at Singapore’s public transport.
1) Some ang mohs (whites) and Japanese are now Singaporeans’ fellow
commuters. Previously, these two nationalities are seldom spotted on buses
and trains. From observation, the trend has been increasing at a high rate in
Singapore since two years ago.
2) The voice announcing the names of train stations and courtesy messages of
etiquette at Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) trains now sound more energetic. Until
a year ago, the voice sounded like that of a zombie, but now commuters
enjoy a more lively tone and intonation in the announcements
3) Since a year ago, more bus commuters are flouting the no eating rule on
board buses despite a fine of S$ 500. The offenders are commonly secondary
school students, more often females. Strangely, the item consumed most
frequently consumed from observation is usually a beverage from bubble tea
shop “Sweet Talk”.
