W Who decides who gets the job is not the Singapore government’s role
Although the public sector does hire foreigners, it is in the private sector where the ratio of foreign employees is significantly higher. In the last three years, this ratio has jumped at an alarmingly high rate, though the exact number is unclear. Private employers often cite lower wages of foreign workers as the main factor behind hiring practices, lowering costs and improving the bottom line of the company. In short, the government’s role is merely to create jobs. Who Singapore’s jobs go to is up to the decision of employers. Crystal Tein, The Cheers NewsTAGS: Asia-Pacific
