DUI is a serious crime.  It usually ends in a person losing their right to drive or jail time.  Sometimes, as in this case, someone can be seriously injured or killed!

On October 17th, a young man by the name of Jesse H. Gay (21).  Drove is his truck while under the influence of alcohol.  He was traveling down Old Sterlington Road in Monroe, Louisiana. On that road, is an annex Medical Center of a Hospital by the name of; North Monroe.  Witnesses say Gay, lost control of his vehicle: ran into a tree, swurved to avoid a utility pole, and ran inside the Medical Center.  In the area of the Medical Center where Gay hit were two patients in bed, as a nurse watched over them.  Margret Elizabeth Loveless (89) of Conway, Arkansas, was killed.  The other patient's identity, was not given, but was severly injured.  The nurse; Patricia K. Brown, suffered a broken nose, and two blackened eyes.

Gay, a baseball player for the ULM Indians, was released from police custody, after having his blood alcohol level checked.  He immediatley fled to Woodville Texas, his hometown, to be with his family.  Police were informed of this, and tried to contact Gay without success. Police did speak with Gay's mother Debbie Walker, a single parent.  She told police how hard its been raising him alone.  She said Gay's father was a drug user, and had been to jail.  Gay was distraut about what happened, and has thought of nothing else his mother told police.  she also explained his father has not been in much of his and his two brothers' lives  Walker says its only influence is baseball, because of his coaches and teammates.  Maybe this was an attempt by Walker to persuade police to go easy on Gay, though I'm sure she was aware, of the seriousness of her sons actions!

October 20, a warrant was issued for Gay's arrest. It was discovered that this was not Gay's first time being arrested for a DUI.  The first was in May, where Gay received 2 years supervised probation.  Fourth District Attorney Jerry Jones, plans to file criminal charges, after he views the police report.  For more on this story, log on to www.thenewsstar.com
