TRIANGLES ABOVE THE BELGIUM

In the March of 1990, the large wave of UFO sightings, have caught the sky of Belgium. The reported objects were in the shape of the triangle. The most known case refers to attempted UFO interception by two Belgian planes F-16, after the objects have been detected on radar. Besides the Belgian Air Force, the investigation has been carried out also by the police and the Scientific Society from Brussel  - “Society for the Study of Space Phenomena” (on French the abbreviation is “SOBEPS”). The joint study has gathered across 2000 reports of eyewitnesses, dozens of photos and video recordings together with testimonies from the police. The Belgian Air Force has openly cooperated with the public during the study of this problem. At the end, Air Force has prepared the public report about the noted incidents. The report has been signed by the General Major Wilfried De Brouwer, Commander of Aircraft Operations at the time. On the basis of this open cooperation with the air force, SOBEPS has published the final 500-page report about the Belgian UFO incidents, under the title 'UFO Wave in the Belgium'. This new open approach of institutions, towards the UFO phenomenon, additionally was marked with the public process in Spain. The process refers to public release of Spanish UFO documents, back in 1992.

HISTORY of the SPANISH UFO DOCUMENTS

During the 1968, Spanish Air Force has started with the intensive collection of UFO reports, because of the increasing number of sightings. Air Force has also called for help from general public. The ads were published in daily papers with requests towards the citizens to report their UFO sightings to the nearest Air Base. Collected testimonies were archived and after the analysis the data have been assorted in different reports.

In 1976. journalist J. J. Benitez with the help of the certain general, has been able to acquire military documents which are describing 12 UFO incidents above the Spain. He has published his findings in the book called 'UFOs  - official documents of Spanish government'. Because of this oversight, Spanish Air Force has intensified the surveillance and level of secrecies in order to prevent such leaking of documents in the future.

Colonel Alvaro Fernández Rodas has asked from all air bases to enclose all material that they have about UFO’s.

In 1990, leading Spanish ufologist, Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos, has started to lobby towards the Spanish Air Force. His aim was public release of all UFO military dossiers for the purpose of scientific and historical insight. Olmes has been able to arrange meetings with the representatives of the Air Force where he has tried to convince them that UFO information does not represent a threat to the National Security. Detention of such data is not coherent with the mentality of the democratic nation. Olmes have emphasized that French organizations like GEPAN and SEPRA are researching UFO’s publicly and openly and that is a good policy without secrecy.

ALL SECRETS HAVE A LIFE TIME

In May of 1991, thanks to the pressure, “Office for the Air Safety”, that supervised the UFO documents, has prepared the memorandum in which proposes the release of total archive. Colonel Alvaro Fernández Rodas has asked from all air bases to enclose all material that they have about UFO’s, in order that documents could be integrated at the central place.

In March of 1992, Spanish Air Force has decided to remove confidential classification from documents, leaving the final decision of release towards the main Headquarters of Air Force.  “MOA” (Headquarters of Air Operative) has recollected over 62 UFO dossiers which are covering the period from 1962 to 1991. The material has been composed of procedures and documents which are showing the attitude of Air Force towards the UFO phenomenon, together with collected data from the civilians and other branches of army.

Rocamora – Team responsible for the release of
Spanish UFO of documents.

The intelligence section of MOA, has prepared and reviewed the documents for the release. Process has been supervised by the colonel Angel Bastida. He was a representative of a new way of military thinking. Throughout this period, Olmos and Bastida have arranged many meetings in order to find joint consensus for the release of UFO documents. Bastida has formed a new procedure for the future UFO investigations and statistical analysis. The open cooperation between military and civilian ufology has become a new reality. The new policy of transparent cooperation and 'complete release' of UFO of documents has taken place.

To be concluded...
