I agree, Kaufmann is a fine writer, and I have no desire to disparage his name but, what I meant was that fame is not something the writer or the seeker of truth should concern himself with. I am currently reading "The Faith of a Heretic".

You wrote that "Kaufmann, though a brilliant mind, left no immortal work behind him in and of its self." Immortality may be a tall order, but his 'Critique of Religion and Philosophy,' its sequel 'The Faith of a Heretic,' and also the later 'Without Guilt and Justice' are superb original works that I try to foist on all who will listen. He's a great stylist and his substantive range is deep and wide. Just great stuff.
