Israel, I agree that the everyday use of the word monkey would not be considered racist. However a precedent was set late last year with the actions of the Indian fans. Harbhajan knew that the word "monkey" was upsetting in a racial way to Symonds, yet he still chose to use that word. It doesn't matter what you or I consider racist, it's the fact that Symonds considers the word monkey offensive and Harbhajan knew that.

Calling a black guy a monkey is racist and infers he has just swung down out of the trees, therefore he is a lesser person. Like the actions of Indian fans in your country towards Symonds. However much of what you say I don't disagree with, and it will be interesting to se the outcome of the appeal.
By the way it is great to see India playing great cricket and spicing up the series. They have exposed some short comings of the Australians who are now missing the retirement of their stars.
