I commend your effort to learn more about Islam and actually reading the Qur'an but there is much more you need to know in order to contribute towards saving the West.
You know enough about Islam to be both correct and erroneous.
The first crusade was about 1092 AD and Mohammad never did learn to read and write and the Quran was not codified until 150 years after his death and Islam's Allah is NOT a god of love and neither it is the same God as Judaism and Christianity. I suggest you study more. Read Craig Winn's book The Prophet of Doom - free, on the internet.
And but the way Karen Armstrong work will not be helpful - Try Robert Spencer et al.

To Ron:
Thanks for your post, Ron!
Actually my friend, I had read the 'authorized' version of the Koran of which I based my article. I also had read what was considered (mid-1970s) 'the best and most truthful' biography of Muhammad that I could find.
I've read the entire Bible. Recall that I studied 'Religions of the World' and student taught the class for two years.
I don't need to read the Koran again. Twice was enough. History proved its writer to have been a 'Warlord,' and I am more into my Native American half (Irish is the other) religious beliefs than any others.
I respectfully disagree with you that I was being, "judgmental," as you put it.
Back in 1999-2000, I spoke in detail with several Muslims who were in prison, as I visited many of them and played music for them. They confirmed that too many 'terrorists' take from the Koran what they need to an end of abuse. Perhaps you might read up on that.
Thanks again for your post.
We grow by sharing our knowledge with each other. All we can do is to make sure that all sides are completely informed.
God's Good Graces to you.

God never loves unjust people./ Henk 2007-02-15 22:36:40
It always amazed me how well-educated, inteligent people get sucked into wars, terrorism and other such acts by religious doctrine. It always disgusted me when a no doubt very well meaning but misguided padre said a prayer just before we went out to depart a fellow human being from this earth. It disgusts me even more when one calculates the death-toll of wars conducted in the name of religions of one form or another. If there is a loving god, and that can be and no doubt will be debated forever, he/she has a lot to answer for. He, some would say she, should be subject to lemon laws being accused of providing faulty merchandise. He/she certainly made a mess of things. Anyone being able to create the likes of George Bush and John Howard should be charged with misrepresentation or even fraud. I would agree with sorcaress. People create their own reality, good, bad or indifferent, and people of goodwill and compassion will always prevail, regardless of what might or might not believe in. In what I believe I think and do in terms of assisting my fellow human beings, I certainly don't need a god to help me along. Have fun with this.

If you believe that, then go back and read it again. People punish themselves, everyone creates their own reality - good, bad or indifferent.

All I want to say is this: A Little learning is a dangerous thing...you are making a lot of assumptions based on your reading of an English translation of the Koran. You are also making judgmental comments on Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. Do some more research read books written by Karen Armstrong (for example), broaden your scope. The God is Love is the biggest lie ever. God never loves unjust people, He punishes them. Check your Bible, people of Lot, Pharos, read more..good luck
