An Italian thief was arrested after he went back to the post office he had robbed to ask the female cashier out on a date.

Bruno Perez, 31, had forced Lucia Marcelo to give him the post office's takings at gunpoint, but was so taken with the 21-year-old he returned to the post office in Genoa the next day.

Armed only with a bunch of flowers and some of the money he had stolen, Bruno apologised and asked Lucia out on a romantic date. However, Lucia kept him talking as she pressed a silent alarm connected to the local police station, and he was arrested seconds later.

A police spokesman said: "It seems he could not resist coming back to ask her out, even though he knew the risks of doing so."
