A plane in China was grounded after a pet mouse escaped from a passenger's pocket.

Liu Yulian had hid the rodent in her coat pocket as she smuggled it past airport security and took it onboard the flight.

During the flight, Liu realised it had escaped so had to inform the cabin staff.

The crew kept the information secret to avoid alarming other passengers but made an extra landing at Xiaoshan International Airport and quarantined the plane.

But they couldn't find the mouse so after two-and-half hours the airport lifted the quarantine and allowed the plane to fly on to its final destination, Shenzhen.

A spokesman for airline, China Southern, says it acted in passengers' interest: "We couldn't continue to fly without getting rid of the potential danger." '
