Paul Hansen, 42, was left dangling off a giant mountain ash tree with the pooch strapped to his chest shortly after taking-off in Melbourne.

The pair were there for five hours before rescuers came.

Paul - who is battling cancer - said: "I was more concerned about Emma. She knew that we were in danger, but she didn't panic or anything. She always flies with me. She loves it. I wouldn't take her if she didn't like it."

Police search and rescue officers took about an hour to scale the tree before putting Paul and Emma on a stretcher and lowering them to the ground.

They were then taken to hospital before being released.
