New York, Dec 28 : Human Rights Watch has called upon the Pakistan Government to undertake an independent and transparent investigation into Benazir Bhutto's assassination.
Human Rights Watch has called upon the Pakistan Government to undertake an independent and transparent investigation into Benazir Bhutto's assassination.

"The assassination of Benazir is a tragic event with serious implications for Pakistan's transition to democracy," said Ali Dayan Hasan, HRW's South Asia researcher.

"Political violence of this nature has claimed far too many innocent lives in Pakistan and it must stop. Benazir was a democrat who believed in the supremacy of constitutional rule. Throughout her career, she sought power through the ballot box," Hasan added.

He further said that to prevent Pakistan's descent into further political chaos, it is essential that both the Government and Benazir's supporters follow the rule of law and remain peaceful. (ANI)
