Three people died Wednesday in an explosion at a chemical firm in the southern city of Jacksonville, Florida, on the Atlantic coast, broadcast reports said.
Cable News Network, which showed tall, billowing black clouds rising from the site of the explosion, reported that people in the surrounding area had been evacuated. One woman who was more than 3 kilometres away from the explosion said the doors on her car had been blown off by the force of the blast.
News 4 in Jacksonville reported on its website that the explosion happened at T2 Labs, a chemical company that makes solvents and gasoline additives. Hazardous materials units battled the fire.
Fourteen people were transported to local hospitals, News 4 reported.
