Election funds: where does it all go, win or lose?

Article by
Writer, Researcher, Poet, Public Speaker
What happens to the millions of dollars that they raise to run for office should they lose their respective elections?

Has anyone wondered along with me, when politicians run for office that are already in office, such as Senator Obama and Senator McCain, who is doing their job while they are on the Champaign trail?

And also, what happens to the millions of dollars that they raise to run for office should they lose their respective elections? What happens to those funds left over should they win their elections?

These are three major questions that I have had on my mind for my entire voting life, and that’s roughly 30 years.

I’ve tried to ask many candidates by letters and emails and received no reply to those three questions. Is it some deep, dark secret that only these canadates and elected officials know of, and they aren’t talking.

When almost all of these candidates promise to tell the truth in every little detail of either their campaign or once in office, of getting to the truth and promising to us that they will clean up whatever the mess, so why won’t they answer these three major questions?

Do you get the feeling as I do, that the reason they aren't telling us what the answers are is that they want to keep those answers secret, for obvious reasons of profit?

But don't take my word for it. You try asking them these three major questions, or just listen carefully to their paid announcements and see if you ever find an answer to at least where the left over money goes.

It is better to have voted for someone and no one than to not have voted at all.
The saddest reality to all of this is in asking my family and friends whom they are going to vote for, almost everyone states, "The lesser of the two evils," or words to that effect.

Of course, to vote for the lesser of the two evils works when there are running mates, but what about those in office who run 'unchallenged,' where there are no running mates?

It is better to have voted for someone and no one than to not have voted at all.

I urge all voters to ponder intensely whom they are going to vote for, and if undecided, you can always vote to another party, or just leave a blank spot for the unchallenged because they will win even if there are no votes given to them, simply by running unchallenged for re-election. That’s the sad state of affairs of our election processes.

John Deeds
Letters to the Editor (Texas record over 31) in major newspapers when they aren't rejected. Published novelist (under pen-name). Published poet (ditto). Published songwriter with an album released with a progressive Folk/Americana recording. Editor of the student newspaper in college. Writer with the Underground student newspaper as well. Ran, but defeated by 11 votes for President of the Student government in college. I never ran again. It was just a fishing trip for the richer students, anyway. I preferred playing chess and my guitar.

I'm a tall Texan who doesn't have a Texas accent unless needed. I can speak roughly, about 12 English dialects. I am a Cancer survivor, former NASA worker (under a different name) and disabled American Veteran who is an active Advocate of U.S Veterans and Veterans Rights, 'Rights,' that aren't any more or less than any other progressive country with Army's of their own. Therefore, I am an advocate for self-preservation as well, since our families should always come first. Hence, I write about 'politics' and Culture, which have become more of a 'philosophy' than a force created to serve its people: not itself.
