My Generations,The Millennials or The Echo Boomers, born between 1980 and 1994, have an inflated view of self, and a slight case of narcissim. The ego of the Millenial sometimes get’s the best of him or her, along with his or her’s highly inflated self-esteems-due to a politically correct atmosphere where no one can lose. The Millenial has a lot of pride, and has a hard struggles to “humble thy self.” I am a Millenial, Generation Y.
While growing up: childhood, adolecents and the teenage years, the Millenial was encouraged to do competetive activites. However, win or lose, both teams received trophies. There are no losers--every Millenial is a winner. I can remember playing baseball, and every year I had a trophy: even if my team sucked, we recieved a trophy-the millenial should not feel bad, nor experience loss or hardship.
Life is always fair for the Millenial: due to the pollitically correct socialization by schools, sports activities, and even his or her parents-life is always fair, and everyone is a winner. No one really wins a baseball game, or a can stand out as valedictorian. The Millenial, as a group are reward, to make life fair.
The Millenial should never no pain.
This is my Generation: the generation that is an Echo of our parents, the Boomers, who were coming of age when September 11th, 2001 occured. The Millenails are now experiencing our first recession, or should I say depression? Should I minimize it with political correctness and call it the Great Recession?
We may ask why I am writing about The pseudo-psycho analysis about the Generation that is Y, and I want? I began to wonder on a societal and cultural level how this generation is experiences life in a post 9-11 world, the Great Recession World.
There is no such thing a Millenial loser-at least that’s what our parents, teachers and coaches would have us think. A Millenial is techno-savvy; married to the smart-phone, iPad, Android Tablet, and the net. The Digital/Information Age is as much a part of the Millenial, and, that’s not just metaphorically speaking, as an arm, a leg or the brain is attached to the human body.
The Digital Age is en-cultured in to our Echo-Millenial-Boomer psyche: It’s become apart of mankind, the human-psyche.
The Information age and the Digital age are apart of our human conscience; perhaps, both are more apart of our subconscious. We are almost bionic, but with out the integration of cybernetics into our flesh. Because of the integration of digital information in every aspect of our lives, this constant access has become what defines a Millenial has an individual, and as a Generation. While our parents raised us with there values, we have developed our own Generational values. I was born in ‘82: I am a Millenial Echo Boomer. I was born into the largest birth rate since the Baby Boom.
The Baby Boomers and our traditionalist grandparents, the Greatest Generation, have welfare and social security. It’s possible my generation will not see social security, at least in it’s current form by the time we retire. However, for some reason, we feel entitled-like we should be able to have social security as well, or live off welfare, or to have a job after we have finished and graduate from college.
One of the worst qualities of a Millenial is the sense of entitlement: we feel entitled to be able to buy what we want, live life how we want, and spend as much money as we want while disregarding the consequences of over spending. My generation acts the need for immediate gratification and impulsiveness; whether or not it is in our personal life or financial decisions.
We expect to have it now! and not later . . . not slow, not fast. We want our jobs, our life, and everything good that comes with success instantaneously-like a Star Trek replicator: Cash please, iPod please-degree and a job please. I need an instant fix to all my problems, please: for example, I need an anti-depressent here (my self-esteem is not where it should be), and I need some adderal for my ADHD. I can’t focus.
We prefer work to work around our schedule, so that we have time for leasure. Our world is a world of self-gratification: a world where prudence is almost non-existent. It’s in our music; our televison shows-just look at Jersey shore, or Kanye’s behavior while he’s at the Video Music Awards. Selfishness and Self-gratifying behavior: It is what makes us tic, and makes us bold.
There is rarely justice with us because our justice is always fair. We show no courage: we have othesr fight our battles, or we go and shoot-up a high school or university when some one picks on us. There is only pride, and no humility.Because you picked on me in school, I’ll show you--by taking your life. The Millennials are spoild-brats: boohoo, when life doesn't go as planned.
I never thought I would experience being laid off: I felt I had a good, stable career in the mental health field. I was always able to buy what I wanted, when I wanted it whether it's name brand clothes, or new toys--such as new smart phones. My smart phone is attached to me, and for my generation it's like a hand.
Like I said: the digital age is apart of our psyche.
After being laid off, I received one unemployment check and decided it wasn’t worth sitting on my a--. I chose to go out and find a job. I ended up settling for a minimum wage job. $7.25 an our does not pay the bills. I worked that for a year, and moved to Texas from Kentucky because I felt the economy better. I am currently making 8.50 an hour, but that is still not enough.
At least I know I am not as narcissistic as my peers--I’m at least working. I guess I stick true to the conservative values I was taught;however, my team still obtained trophies when we lost.
Don’t be a sore loser now: and just because you were picked on in school, doesn’t mean you go shoot up the school-I am talking to you, Kip.
I am entitled to a job that I am qualified for. A job that pays the bills and let’s me live comfortable, damn-it!
The Bureau of Labor statistics reported that in August, 2010, the unemployment rate was 9.6 percent. Fox News on September 16th, 2010, reported that U.S. poverty rate is 14.3 percent. The Economy hasn’t gotten better--I’m still not making the amount of money that I deserve to make. I am apart of a growing number of college educated Millennials taking underpaying jobs that they are extremely overqualified for.
Thank you, God, for the Tea Party--I pray everyday that we’ll be able to fix this mess by electing true conservatives that run on a Tea Party platform.
Dear Nancy Pelosi and President Obama:
I am entitled to a bail out-where is it? I work hard. Will we really have Obamacare: is it just another wasteful spending scam by the government that will actually increase the national debt, and instead of lowering health care costs, raise them?
I’d like free medication, and I’d also like free dental care with that order. Now! Please!
Time magazine reported that college grads are taking jobs that require less education; “would you like fries with that; is that a Grande or a tall Mocha? Thank you Starbucks!
It’s not just me: I have friends that have graduated. What are they doing? They are either bar-tending, serving, or working in the retail industry for slave wages.
I am constantly searching and scanning for a new job. Hopefully, I will find a new, higher paying job that I am entitled to have.
The infuriating part about it: The Millennial is groomed this way, to have this sense of entitlement, inflated self-esteems and egos. It’s all that political correct nonsense: thank you democrats and all the current republicans. Don’t worry, you won’t be in power much longer--we're going to vote you out! We are going to fix this mess.
If there is one thing that living in poverty has shown me--it’s how I can be more humble, and less prideful. I don’t feel as entitled to have the material things; however, don’t get me wrong, I’d go nuts with out my Motorola Droid smart phone--it’s my access to the world. It’s a part of me; I have integrated it in to my psyche. It's part of my conscience and subconscious.
Too all the old school politicians beware--just because we are entitled, narcissistic-ego-crazed, inflated self-absorbed youngsters with an extremely high self-esteem--we’re not stupid. We are extremely intelligent, we can multitask, and we are techno-savvy in the work place; we are well read, and better educated. We will bring down the establishment: we will repair the damage you have done, and hopefully we will raise our children better than you have raised us.
Hopefully, my generations as individuals will "humble thy self".
