Aftershocks Hit Northwestern Indonesia

 An aftershock of 6.2 magnitude hit the town of Gunung Sitoli on the island of Nias last Sunday, centred 33 kilometres under the seabed.  A second shock, measuring 6.1, hit approximately three hours later, 37 kilometres east of  Tarutung, in Sumatra Island's north.

There have been no reports of damage or casualties from either of the aftershocks.

The Boxing Day earthquake that triggered the tsunami, killing 270,000 people, is now said to have been 9.3 on the Richter scale, the second biggest earthquake ever recorded and twice the power orginally stated.
