James A. Harley, after 7 years of college work with a Ph D at Harvard in Business Finance and Wall Street Stock Exchange Management, gained immediate employment with the prodigious brokerage firm of Alexander and Bother. This was of course after 3 summers of intense internship as his future was predestined because of the early placement through family connections. Also, his paper was so pronounced that The Wall Street Journal promoted it into a best seller to gain him added stature throughout the financial world.
The year before he finally graduated, he married into a historical and wealthy family from nearby Danbury, Connecticut and while his own family held high social and wealth position Colleen Thacker’s family were a few notches higher up in the high society social scale. This marriage was the essential turning point 20 years later resulting in his presently being ensconced in the White House of the Nation’s capitol.
Robert Cain had just been elected the new president of the United States and those 60-days before the inauguration were spent assigning his cabinet officers to positions and selecting other members of his administrative staff. He also had early on in his legal career married into another wealthy and influential old Connecticut family from Newport. His wife went to schools and were members of the same country clubs, golfed and sailed together as Colleen as they were lifetime good friends.
This social set had winter homes in Palm Beach and most often spent winter months in and around Cote de Zure in the south of France. Again, it was this connection that brought Jim Harley to Washington to team up with President Cain.
Jim Harley had over the years gained CEO status and a variety of Vice Presidential jobs in the firm as well as tremendous personal worth simply because of his vast knowledge of insider trading on Wall Street itself as well as an acute understanding of the commodity exchange in Chicago. These were short term profit takers. After his original capital was withdrawn, he simply rolled over the accumulating funds to build a financial power base of its own. Jim was very astute on when to buy low and sell high accounting for his outstanding success.
Aside from his estate in Newport, he liked to take his summers in the Minnesota lake country; it was so different from the East Coast and truly a great getaway for a complete change of pace. He considered the winter home in Palm Beach a real estate investment and the annual lease paid for his weekends from November to March at his hide-away home in Bermuda.
All these factors set him quite apart from his business associates and firm partners, in simple terms, “…he was not one of them.” Only his great gifts and talents in the financial world made him acceptable at all.
Thus it was here in his 21st year that they irrevocably crossed swords. There is a maneuver among Wall Street insiders wherein brokers can take an order from a customer on a Thursday afternoon and purposely delay in placing the order in effect. The smart operator will take the customers funds and buy some stocks he is certain to gain a few points over the weekend, that is, Friday and Monday’s trading. On Tuesday morning first thing, he will sell his secret shares, recover the original money plus the gain in points to earn himself some extra pocket money. The customer would never know the differences as his stock purchase showed no movement and if a few points were gained, the broker would always plead “press of business” failed to give him time and opportunity to place the order until the following Tuesday.
As number three man in the firm, Jim argued that the firm members were wealthy enough they did not have to do this. It caused wide spread discussion if not argument, and the free spriit wasys of Jim Harley now cost him the fraternal support. The Board voted to grant him early retirement whether he wanted it or not.
Jim was now wealthy with current assests and side profits taking in the commodity market, after consulting with his wife Colleen decided, yes, he would take the offer, relax and perhaps write another book. There had been vast changes in the financial world in his 20-year span of intricate involvement, and that retirement prospective appealed greatly to both he and his wife. He had often thought of a good novel potential involvijg high finance and now he would have the time and space to pursuit that growing ambition.
Fourteen months later after one manuscript submitted and accepted by the publisher, he received a secret message through his wife’s social contacts from President-Elect Robert Cain. It was hand delivered by an highly confidential messenger, no one less then Mrs. Cain herself. She stood by waiting for a reply. The Message read: “From this moment on, you are to assume the name de plume of A. Rogers. Please be at the Newport Railroad Station, platform 3 at 10:30 AM next Saturday morning. A secret service agent will escort you to the Newport Yacht Club dock. For complete privacy and security, I will be alone on Harry Stanford’s 68-foot sailing yacht, “Cruiser.” I have a story to tell you and request that you give me your assistance.

The EIP factor - what you should learn from it

When we grow older, or get older for the sake of the argument, we tend to start seeing the world only from one side. We tend to believe, no, not believe but know, how things are done. If you are smart, you understand that it shouldn't be that way, you understand this is wrong.

When art becomes genderless
Whether we want to admit it or not, even now, in year 2012, there are still big gender biases in some fields of life. While it's generally understandable that men should do more heavy lifting than women and knitting fits a bit better for the women (even though I am aware even here there are many people who want to disagree), art is one of those things where our gender really should not play any significant role at all. And within the past decade things have started to change even on this front and even on the more conservative arenas such as Bukowskis - the top Nordic auction house.
