Kofi Humanitarian Superman

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan seems to think he's a humanitarian crusading to make the "world" a better place. I beg to differ on this one. After all, he did fail to re-enforce UN peacekeeping troops in Rwanda, leading to 800,000 needless deaths.

The world is a turbulent place, and an even more dangerous place for Americans. But according to Kofi Annan, in an interview with the BBC, "The US War on Terror is overshadowing the battle against AIDS."

I'm sorry, but I sure hope that the United States is paying more attention to terrorism than it is AIDS. While I do realize that AIDS is a serious pandemic, I'm more concerned that another plane will fly into another building or a bomb will go off in New York City.

On 9-11, we were attacked, and our way of life was threatened. In my opinion, Kofi Annan seems to think AIDS is more of a threat to world peace than 'Muhammad' setting off a nuke in New York City.

His opinion that the U.S. is paying more attention to "terrorism" than AIDS is absurd. First off, President Bush pledged 15 billion dollars in bilateral agreements to combat AIDS. Second, just because the money isn't going to the "global" fund that the UN set up, it does not mean the United States isn't doing "enough." Besides, with that much money going to the bureaucracy, in light of the recent Oil-For-Food debacle I would not be too adamant about sending money to the UN Global fund.

Kofi seems to think he's some humanitarian Superman crusading against AIDS, and its threat to the world. Well, he's not a humanitarian. He's a bureaucrat from a third-world country who doesn't seem to see the reality that terrorism, for the United States, is the bigger threat.

While I'll agree that AIDS is a serious diseases, I'm not worried about it. While I have sympathy for the children infected, and their suffering for the sexual irresponsibility of their parents, there is a bigger issue for the world to fight.

That is, of course, terror.

Kofi's statement just proves how useless this organization is, and that when it comes down to it, the UN always cuts and runs rather than working to prevent genocide or fight terror, which both in tandem threaten freedom and its fragile balance on the globe. Perhaps if Kofi wasn't spending so much time on AIDS and asking why the United States won't send money to his global fund, he'd be doing something about the genocide in Sudan.

Then again, when CNN reports a quote by Richard Gere (from a conference on fighting Aids in Bangkok) and Gere says, "A vicious terrorist is out there. It is not Osama bin Laden, it is AIDS," it makes me glad to know the we have people out there who are so caring. Still, letting countries commit mass-murder gives even more credence to the fact that the UN is a failed organization.

The UN seems to think that tough talk will stop the genocide in Sudan. No, I'm sorry, but diplomacy will fail on this one. We need to send troops or some international force there. Around 10,000 people have died in Sudan, and the only thing the UN can do- because their Secretary General is whining that the U.S. isn't paying enough attention to the "terrorist" AIDS - is call the situation in Sudan "the world's greatest humanitarian crisis."

Great thinking there! Now what is the UN going to do about it? Just sit idly by, while waiting for more "resolutions" of how they can impose sanctions on Sudan? Or will they act fast and stop the killing by sending in a peacekeeping force?

Than again, we have seen how France and the UN view the Iraq war: no war is not the answer even though Iraqis were living under a tyrant, who tortured and made their lives a living-hell. And how that is not a "Humanitarian Crisis," I do not understand. So when it comes to oppression, violence and genocide we can always count on the UN, France, and Kofi to look the other way, or act when its to late, thus letting 800,000 people die- and then come up with a false excuse that the world, or the U.S. isn't doing "enough."

Then again, I guess 15 billion dollars pledged to combat AIDS isn't enough --perhaps we should let the money go to this "global" fund. That way the UN can just "pocket" the money.

I can just hear the headlines now, "AIDS Global Fund Scandal." Billions pocketed, thus letting millions more die from AIDS. But forget the war on terror, genocide in Sudan, or remember Rwanda? It's not as important as AIDS. While I'll realize AIDS has infected millions, people this very minute too are being slaughtered, or blown up by terrorist around the world.

In April of 1994 genocide in Rwanda began --but three months before this -- on January 11th a fax was sent by General Dallarie, warning of the genocide to come. The Belgians withdrew right after ten of their soldiers were slaughtered like cattle. Also, Kofi, who was head of the UN peacekeeping operations at the time, even with information Dallarie had provided, had refused to re-enforce the Generals peacekeeping force.

Indeed, this is just an early example of Kofi's and the UN's failings.

For France, the UN and Kofi "it's about the money stupid." Yes, all about the money, who cares that Iraqi's were being tortured, Saddam was paying off the UN and any other country or company that would oppose the war. Why not? Who cares that a little Iraqi child may starve to death or have his father tortured by Saddam -- or his sons.

Kofi, the UN Secretary General, is doing just fine running the UN not! If he was, there wouldn't be new information coming out every day about which companies, and countries received money from the Oil-For-Food program; just go to the Wall Street Journal's --Opinion Journal-- there you'll find an article called "Drip, Drip, Drip" by Claudia Rosett. There is a quote saying, "We need no longer wonder which Russian company got the contracts on the eve of war, in February 2003, to sell broadcasting gear to Saddam, or for how much. The U.N. list says Nord Star, from which Saddam -- approved directly by Secretary-General Kofi Annan's office, in the name of relief, in the thick of the U.N. debate over Iraq -- ordered up $3.4 million worth of TV studio equipment.

Really. Approved by Kofi's Office. This really makes you wonder if he "really" cares about the suffering of less-fortunate peoples around the world; I guess TV studio equipment is more important -- a hell of a lot more important than a staving Iraqi. And Kofi wants the United States of America --and President George W. Bush to fund the global AIDS fund? I think not -- not my tax dollars. I feel much better with the $15 billion dollars pledge on bilateral agreements, and at least I know TV studio equipment won't be bought with it.

Of course another quote from the article goes on to say, "The U.N. to this day has refused to release any more details to the public, first citing the need to protect the privacy of Saddam and his business partners, then sending out letters in April reminding the overseers of oil sales and relief imports to keep quiet, and now deflecting all inquiries to the Volcker investigation."

Refusing to release details to the Public and deflecting all inquiries for the Volcker investigation -- all in the name to protect Saddam's privacy? Your joking, right? Kofi's hands must be really dirty -- after all he has the deaths of 800,000 Rwandans, plus his not wanting the United States to take Saddam out. Kofi is one great Humanitarian --not. He'd rather let Iraqi's be murdered -- starved, all in the name of "privacy," -- and whose privacy to protect? Saddam, a man who has killed more Muslims than anyone in history -- don't forget the 300,000 Iranians he bombed with chemical weapons in 1981.

Suppose Hitler was around today? I'm sure he'd oppose freeing the Jews too -- or even after Pearl Harbor was bombed -- Kofi would just say,"Diplomacy works, but polio is more important. You're becoming "World War II obsessed."

Indeed, Kofi -- Humanitarian Superman is no Humanitarian --he's a corrupt bureaucratic liberal -- who is blood thirsty for power. Then again I'd be deflecting questions too if a book came out on United Nations corruption, like the one called "Emergency Sex." The book is about the sex and drug parties, which happened during UN peacekeeping missions. Great job Mr. Annan; your UN is doing an excellent job at making the globe a better place to live. Of course if the UN really believed in Life, Liberty, and the "Pursuit" of Happiness, his UN would not be threatening to fire the three authors of the book. At least we'll know that if they are terminated, chances are the book is 100 percent true but, then again, there is no reason "Emergency Sex" isn't 100 percent true regardless; we've seen, or at least heard, what they've done with the Oil-For-Food program.

You see, it's all reversed. It's not the United States that's not doing enough to combat AIDS or free a oppressed people, or stopping genocide. It's the UN, Kofi, and, of course, the beloved French. With this I leave you this message. Do we all remember Newtons law of motion? For every action there is an equal opposite reaction. So for Kofi's first law, "for every inaction, there is an equal and opposite reaction, resulting in death and starvation of thousands. His second law is when you screw up, blame someone else or say the United States isn't doing enough. Humanitarian indeed, Kofi -- Humanitarian Superman --Not!

First off, my facts are right --France did infact oppose sanctions; also, I never said they voted on the resolution, I just said the opposed one. And if you want to say the BBC is lying, well then I guess France didn't. And yes, they did oppose the Sanctions. So, you might want to go ahead and "CHECK" your facts --

If you'd like I can even show you the facts....

This column is also a week old, so, it's possiable they changed their view with in that time. I wrote it a while ago. But again, check your facts.

Oh and by the way, I never said anything about a UN resolution -- read the column again, that paragraph. Like you said a US back effort...

and again, trust my my facts are RIGHT...

but if you wish to think that, then go ahead...

But, I'm right and your wrong.

Olivier Laurent says on 2004-07-28 05:43:33 about About France
Tell me if I am wrong, but the United Nations have yet to vote on a resolution against Sudan.

You write the following: "Even the French will stop at nothing when it comes to halting violence in a war torn nation. Even so, they opposed a U.S. backed effort to put international sanctions into effect to stop the ethnic cleansing that's going on in the country's Civil War."

Only Russia, China and Pakistan were against the first draft of the resolution that called for sanctions against Sudan. You can check any news report from Reuters, AFP or AP to see that it the case. Moreover, France with the 24 other European countries have called for sanctions to be imposed on Sudan. Today, the French Foreign Affairs minister was sent to Dafur and Chad, which is acting as negociator.

I do agree with you that the United Nations need to do more, but we, writers, all have to check our facts.
