The Personal Choice of Smoking Marijuana
I Smoke Pot. Whats The Big Deal? So what? I smoke pot.
Think about it. Out of all the after work activities, there are about a
bazillion other things that I could be doing that are worse than
getting high. I am a tax paying citizen. I have a full-time job in the
mental health field. I attend college full-time and carry a 3.5 GPA.
And yes, I smoke marijuana. Hence, the whole reason for this
article. I am sick of good, hard-working, decent people being
persecuted just because they partake in an activity that is totally
misunderstood via hateful propaganda and one-sided commercials. I am
here to dispute some of the stereotypes that generally go with the
average pot smoker. You know the commercials that I am talking
about. The ones that show some loser who never leaves the couch, with
no job, and a nasty house that needs a road map to find the floor. A
commercial that takes the worst possible scenario and exploits the hell
out it to make it a mainstream concept. What these just-say-no people
dont show you is the lawyer, the teacher, the mental health associate,
and the public servant who perform exactly to society's expectations-
except they smoke marijuana. I beseech everyone who reads this article
to look at the why and the personal choice of smoking this spiritual
herb. If you ask me, more teachers should have the privilege of
smoking a big fat joint on a daily basis for doing the job that they
do. America might have happier teachers and a better retention rate to
boot if pot became legal. Before some of you scoff at this suggestion,
let me ask you a question: Whens the last time that youve been in a
classroom? Whens the last time that you've been surrounded by kids who
disrespected you each and every day, for eight consecutive hours a day,
and parents who called this outrageous behavior a means for their
little darlings to express themselves? Im talking ALL DAY! I did it for
years before moving on to mental health. And let me tell you- forget
the apple, hand these people a dime bag! Next on the list
Customer Service. These are the people who deserve the legalization of
marijuana more than any other industry on this planet. This category
includes but is not limited to: waitresses, bill collectors, DMV
agents, flight attendants, and every other profession that catches the
brunt of society's anger. You know the people. Anti-marijuana people
feel that they are better than them because they make more money than
the average customer service agent. Yeah, those people. Tell me, could
you smile and say, How can I help you? after about say.your sixtieth
time being treated like you cant even spell your own name because of
situations that were beyond your control? I have to wonder, how do they
REALLY keep smiling? I suppose that fact will always be a mystery, wont
it? Which leads me to my last profession. Restaurant workers.
Ive seen firsthand the viciousness that a restaurant environment brings
out in people. Talk about not knowing how to act in public- society as
a whole illustrates this concept at one time or another. Here are a few
examples on WHY it should be totally acceptable for anybody working in
a restaurant to be privileged to a toke every now and again.[BB] Example
1. The Running Table- This is a table that takes a waitress and asks
for fifty different things. Not a problem-EXCEPT-its fifty different
trips. These people usually bring their friends and leave very bad tips.
Example 2: Nothing You Bring Is Going To Be Good Enough. One of my
favorite genres of diners. I love these people- honestly. Reasons that
had been exactly what you asked for when you took their order now are
all your fault because 'this is not what we asked for.' And THEY KNOW
WHAT THEY ORDERED. Whoever came up with the concept of 'the customer is
always right' was totally wrong. With this scenario in mind, who can
blame a waitress for getting high after dealing with a bunch of
assholes all night? Well, I certainly cant. Can You? Now, my
favorite anti-marijuana- lie/myth-whatever you would like to call
it:Smoking Pot is a bad thing. WHATEVER! Smoking pot is a recreation
that everyone 21 and older (I do have some morals ya' know) should be
able to partake in without repercussions from an uneducated society
that only gets their information from a one-sided media. So
there you have it- the other side of the story. Pot Smokers arent all
losers. Wheres the commercial that shows the person who worked a full
eight hours, has the house to herself, and wants to unwind? Wheres the
commercial of the bitch who told a waitress at a fine dining
establishment that she (the waitress) should have stayed at McDonald's?
How about the college student who has three jobs and carries a 3.5 GPA?
Oh, hell no the media cant show us those kind of commercials- too many
people might agree with them. Okay, by now some of you out
there might be shaking your heads and calling me some kind of pothead
freak. Pothead- yes. Freak- only sometimes. However, some of you might
be nodding your heads in agreement. I hope this article at the very
least caught your attention. Until next time.

to "weed no more":
your rambling diatribe hit a chord with me, as I went down the first 4 steps, and caught myself before the next point.I have an addictive personality, so thankfully I caught this when Id went from once a week to once a day, by the 5th day i realized, while i was high, what was going on, and now I have a set of rules about when and how to do it, that i will never deviate from. I still think about it every day, but I wont do it more than once or twice a month, and never alone, and never when I could be doing something more productive. If you have the will power, you can enjoy something responsibly. When it becomes something to do in itself, you must stop. |

Everything in moderation. Marijuana is enjoyable, but you wont be doing anything productive when youre high, so if you smoke every day, there are probably better things you could be doing with your time.
Follow the rules you should follow with alcohol or any "questionable" habit: don't do it alone, do it to enhance something, not as something to do in and of itself. And dont do it everyday, unless its for a medical reason.
If youre in a really stressful job like the guy describes, you may smoke so you can stand the abuse youre taking, but the better solution is to get yourself out of that situation, and onto a better one, and weed will not help you do that. |

I cant believe what I have just read. It seems this article was written by a teenager caught up in the glamour, romance and culture that surrounds the abuse of this powerful stimulant.
Having smoked weed heavily for 10 years as a young man, I can safely say that the downsides of using this chemical far outweigh the ups. I discovered some important music through the culture, but really, thats about it. What was lost was far greater...from losing the ability to integrate socially, paranoia, chest problems, constant colds - viruses to lethargy, loss of appetite, loss of motivation, loss of money, depression. Really, when I look back at my teens and early 20's its like I have to squint to see through the purple haze, what I can glimpse is far from healthy or positive.
Sure its ok to smoke the occasioanl joint, most things are ok in moderation, alchohol, ciggarettes, sugar even ecstacy but you must get the idea that these substances are toxins or poisons that are openly abused.
I personally think that smoking weed and the afore mentioned surrounding culture is the most sinister of all as it is widely accepted that its ok to do, not only ok but (its thought) by smoking weed you are somehow empowered or gain some kind of kudos.
You have failed to make one single rational, informed, intelligent or articulate argument for the use of cannabis. Your statements and claims are merely naive generalisations.
In the end, weed cannot be defended or glorified in anyway. Ultimately, its great when you're straight...

Gordo Brown says on 2010-09-04 09:30:31 about Mental Health
Obviously weed can be a dangerous substance if overdone - just like sugar, alcohol, tobacco, food, sunlight, oxygen (pure will kill and can explode) etc. I know just over a hundred people who smoke weed - out of which 3 have had major problems.
Two of those three use heavier drugs which they might not have had such easy access to if weed was legally available.
I know far more fighting alcoholics (over here Stella Artois', sadly accurate, nom de guerre is wifebeater), choc mad diabetics, fatties with heart problems and one-time beauties who really do have a tan to die for.
When placed alongside these problems smoke is a fairly minor player, it could even be seen as comparatively healthy if you accept that we each have our own vices and modern survival methods.
As Holly points out the dangers of cannabis must be realistically represented by the media. This is the last (promise) point for readers to ponder - last year The Sun, a Brit paper, printed a story about a violent alcoholic. He was reported to have drunk 15 pints, along with an unspecified amount of vodka, before going home to smoke one spliff and batter his girlfriend's child to death. The headline?
Dope addict murders child. |

Ebbers says on 2010-04-22 18:52:18 about Weed
Honestly, I dont think that half of the people that smoke weed are actually doing it for the same reasons. Most of the people that smoke are teenagers who think it is cool. In all honesty I'm 17, and I've been smoking pot for almost 3 years. The thing is, weed is not bad. In fact, studies have shown that weed improves so much in a person. And just think about our shit ass economy. If the government would take its head out of its own ass to realize what weed could do for us, it would be so worth it. Hemp, which comes from weed, can be used for so many things. Our economy would go up, and we wont be trillions of dollars in debt to everyone.
WARNING: This is directed to all of those 'i smoke weed everyday! and i'm so fucking cool' kids. Marijuana does not make you cool. Its not a substance that should be used for popularity. Pot is for you. Not to make yourself cool, but to make you relax and sit back and enjoy the time you have before you have to return to your everyday, stressful life.
So to conclude my ramble, Weed is not bad. Dont smoke it to be cool. And dont go around publicizing it. Weed is meant for a hell lot more. So roll a joint. Light it up, and relax. |
